Advanced Browser Features

The Advanced Browser features let you work with the thumbnails in the File Browser.

Change Thumbnail Size

1. If you want to make the thumbnails in the File Browser larger (or smaller), click the Advanced Button on the Browser. This will open the Advanced Files Operations.

1. Click the circle next to Build Previews. Then, set a number for the Preview Size. The larger the number, the larger the preview. The default size is 75.

1. Click the Begin Button. Perfect Quilt will scan each block and change the thumbnail size. Click the Close Button to return to the Browser.

Create Graphics

You can create small bitmap versions of all the files in a folder by using the Advanced Browser Features.

1. Click the Advanced Button on the Browser. This will open the Advanced Files Operations.

1. Click the circle next to Create Graphics. Set the size (in pixels) of the graphic at preview size. The larger the number, the larger the graphic will be. Click the Grayscale option to convert the bitmap to all grays.

1. Click the Begin Button. Perfect Quilt will scan each block and create a bitmap graphic of the block. Click the Close Button to return to the Browser.

1. The bitmaps will be in a "bitmap" folder within the original blocks folder. The filenames will be the same as the original filenames.

Other Thumbnail Options

You can make a back-up copy of the files by clicking the Make Backup circle. We strongly suggest that you do this.

To scan sub-directories (sub-folders), click on the Scan Subdirectories checkbox. This will make any folders within the folder you are working on change the thumbnail size.

If you want Perfect Quilt to not show any text in the preview, click on the Ignore Text checkbox.

To make any fabrics in the block scale, click the Fabric Scaling box. When fabrics scale, they get larger or smaller according to the zoom level. Scaling fabrics can give you an idea of what a fabric looks in a quilt viewed at a distance

Fix Long Names

Fixing Long Names refers to changing the 8 character file names in Perfect Quilt Version 2 to the long or "real" file names found in Versions 3 and 4 in Perfect Quilt. If you are upgrading from Version 2, you will want to convert your Version 2 files.

1. Click the Advanced Button on the Browser. This will open the Advanced File Operations.

1. Click the circle next to Fix Long Names. Click the checkbox next to Scan Subdirectories to fix any folders within the folder you want to convert.

1. Click the Begin Button. Perfect Quilt will scan each block and convert the 8 character file names to the long filenames. Click the Close Button to return to the Browser.

Read Previews and Translate Fabric Palette

Both of these features are diagnostic tools that our tech support representative can use if you are having file trouble. You will not need these features unless you are having trouble opening or viewing file previews. Please contact Perfect Quilt tech support for assistance.
