ATI Video Card

If you have any ATI Video card installed, please read the following carefully. Perfect Quilt Systems has learned of certain problems concerning ATI Video Cards.

Some video cards cannot display certain patches properly. You will notice the problem because patches facing in certain directions will not fill in.

Use the ATI Video Preference to correct this problem. To set this preference, open the File Menu and select Preferences. Then check ATI Video. Be sure to click the Save Button to permanently save the preference so that you do not have to re-set the preference each time you open Perfect Quilt.

If you have an ATI video card, use Perfect Quilt with care. Setting the ATI Video preference should take care of most problems. If you encounter any other drawing or display problems, please inform Perfect Quilt Systems so that they may correct them.

Alternate Fabric Printing

If you cannot print fabrics when you print a block or quilt, you can select the Alternate Fabric Print in the general tab of the Preferences box. The Alternate Fabric printing method may work better with some models of printers.

Copy to Clipboard Format

The copy to Clipboard format options will let you always export files only as pixels (bitmap format), Objects (vector format) or a combination of the two. You can override this preference whenever you export a file or copy patches to the clipboard.

Layers

The Layers Preferences tab gives you basic layer options. See Layers for more information about how to use layers

Layers Enabled: This option turns layers on and off. Normally, layers are off.

Only Active Layer visible: When this option is on, you will see only one layer, even though there may be patches on all three layers. Otherwise, you will see all the patches on all the layers.

Horizontal Layer tabs. The three layer tabs are normally displayed vertically along the left edge of the drawing area. When horizontal layer tabs are on, the layer tabs display horizontally at the upper edge of the screen.

Visible Layers: This tells you which layers are active. There are three layers: Base, appliqué and stencil.

Open Block Specific Size

You can set Perfect Quilt to open all blocks at a specific size. This will change the actual size of the block, not just the zoom level. Use with care! To use this feature, set the block size that you want and click the OK Button.

Painting Modes: Fast and Slow Repaints

Perfect Quilt has two painting preferences: Fast Repaint and Slow Repaint. Change the Painting Preference depending on whether you are painting Appliqué or Pieced Blocks. Use Fast Repaint for pieced blocks and Slow Repaint for appliqué blocks.

About Slow Repaint

Change the preference to Slow Repaint when you create Appliqué and Stencil Blocks. When you paint an appliqué block when Perfect Quilt is set to Slow Repaint, then you can paint patches without disturbing the patch layers. If the Preference setting is set to Fast Repaint, then each patch you paint will be placed on top of all other patches as you paint them and the patch layers will be disturbed.

About Fast Repaint

Change the preference to Fast Repaint for pieced blocks when there is no patch layering. Fast Repaint will paint blocks (and quilts) much faster than Slow Repaint because Perfect Quilt does not need to calculate patch layers. Note: You can use Slow Repaint for pieced blocks, but painting will be slower.

Prompt after Save Fabrics

You have the option to save fabric color changes. To save fabric color changes, check the Prompt After Fabrics Changed option in the General tab in the Preferences Dialog Box. When the Prompt After Fabrics Changed option is turned off, you are not prompted to save your changes.

When to use the Prompt After Fabrics Changed Option

Mostly, you will want to use this option if you are running Perfect Quilt from the CD-ROM. When the Prompt After Fabrics Changed option is on, you can save your color changes into a file which you can then place on the hard drive. (You cannot save file onto a CD-ROM). If you do not turn the Prompt After Fabrics Changed option on, you will not be able to permanently save fabric color changes when you run Perfect Quilt from the CD-ROM.

If you are running Perfect Quilt from your hard drive, you can use the Prompt After Fabrics Changed option to create new copies of fabrics to save color variations.

Browser Natural Sort Order & Simple File Browser

These two preferences in the Block Open tab will help you take care of any browser problems. Browser Natural Sort Order will force Windows to sort folders in the Perfect Quilt browser in alphabetical order. Simple File Browser will dis-able the browser from looking outside your local hard drive. These two preferences apply only to the browser. These preferences should be used only if you are having trouble with the browser.
