Circle Grid

Use the Circular Grid to set up circular blocks such as Mariner's Compass and Grandmother's Fan. To set up the Circle Grid, choose Circle Grid as the grid type in the Grid tab of the Screen Settings Wizard.

The Circular Grid is basically a circle with rings and spokes. You adjust the number of "rings" and the number of spokes.

The spokes are also called radials. The number of radials determines how many "points" a Mariner's Compass block has. You must have at least 3 radials. The maximum number of radials is 360.

The number of rings determines how large the overall grid (and thus block) will be. Perfect Quilt will tell you how large the overall grid is.

The Size determines the distance between rings.

Offset lets you "offset" the radials from their default vertical and horizontal positions.

Tips for drawing blocks with circular Grid

When you use Snap to Grid, the patches on the circular grid will snap to the intersections of the ring and the radial. This is fine for drawing some shapes, but for complex blocks like Mariner's Compass, you will want to snap patches within the ring and radial divisions.

Use Snap to Point to make patches snap to each other. You may even need to use Snap to Line to make secondary "points" on a Mariner's Compass block line up correctly.
