Custom Grid

You can set up a custom grid for special blocks that you can't make with the other grids. For example, the patches don't meet on the standard grid lines. To make a custom grid, You draw a series of lines and then convert the lines to a grid.

To Create a Custom Grid

1. Draw a series of lines with the Line Tool that will become your grid. You can draw the lines on top of any regular grid. Use the patch guidelines to set up the block. Don't forget to draw lines marking the edge of the block!

1. Click on the Options Menu and then click on Make Grid. Perfect Quilt will open a new window with the lines converted to a grid. Click on the Snap to Grid tool and draw patches to "fill-in" the grid. Use the polygon tool for odd shapes.

1. Perfect Quilt keeps your original line drawing in another window. You can save this as a block if you wish. If you want to make any changes to your custom grid later, save the line drawing as a block.

To Save a Custom Grid

1. You can save your custom grid and add it to the custom grid library for future use.

1. After you make the grid, click on the Options Menu and then click on Save Grid. The Save Grid box appears. Name your grid and click the Save button to save it to the library.

To Open a Custom Grid

1. To open a custom grid, click on the Options Menu, and then click on Screen Settings. (Or, Open the Block Wizard by clicking on the File Menu then point to New and click on Block Wizard.

1. Click on the Grid Tab.

1. Click on the drop-down arrow and then click on any of the custom grids. Click on the OK Button to open the grid.

To Delete a Custom Grid

1. To open a custom grid, click on the Options Menu, and then click on Screen Settings.

1. Select the custom grid you wish to delete from the drop-down box. A preview of the grid will appear below the drop-down.

1. Click on the Delete Grid button.

1. Perfect Quilt will confirm that you want to delete the grid. Click Yes and the grid will be deleted.
