Rotary Chart

You can print a set of rotary cutting instructions for any block or quilt. See below for information on which blocks are suitable for rotary cutting.

How to Print a Rotary Chart

1. Create (or open) a quilt or block.

1. Click on the File Menu and then click on Rotary Charts. The Print Rotary Chart box appears.

1. Click on the Preview Button if you wish to see a preview of your chart.

1. Click the Print Button to print a chart. You will get one chart for each kind of block in a quilt. For example, if your quilt has a single block with 3 different colorings, you will get 3 charts. To be considered the same, a block must have the same patches and the same fabrics or colors.

Rotary Chart Options

You can choose to print charts for different parts of your quilt.

Chart Blocks: will print Rotary charts of only blocks.

Chart Borders: will print Rotary charts of only borders.

Chart Sashes: will print Rotary charts of only sashes.

To print charts for the entire quilt, click the Select All button. Click the Select None Button to turn off all selections.

Select Blocks for Charts

You can select any number of blocks for rotary charts. To select a block, click on it once. To select multiple blocks, click on the first block, then hold down the SHIFT key while you click on more blocks.

If you have selected certain parts of the quilt (one block, one border, etc) to make Rotary Charts, click the Selected Parts Only check box to print the selected parts of the quilt.

Rotary Charts for Pieced Borders and Sashes

To print a rotary chart for a pieced border or sash, click on the border or sash in the quilt and then print the Rotary Chart as outlined above. You will get three charts, one for the horizontal, one for vertical border piece (or sash) and one for the corner.

To Use Rotary Charts

Please see the Perfect Quilt User's manual for detail instructions on how to use rotary charts.

What Blocks are suitable for Rotary Cutting?

Not all patches can be rotary cut. Perfect Quilt recognizes only certain patches as rotary-cut-able. These patches are squares, rectangles, right-angle triangles and triangles cut diagonally from rectangles.

What to do if Your Block has Patches that Cannot be Rotary Cut

Perfect Quilt will print any rotary cutting instructions for any block, regardless of whether all the patches are rotary cut-able. When Perfect Quilt finds a patch that cannot be rotary cut, it notes it in the chart. Perfect Quilt will print instructions for the other patches in the block.

You will find rotary cut-able blocks within most folders of The Block Library.
