Quilt Wizard: Layers Tab

With the Layers feature, you can "audition" a quilting design by overlaying it on your quilt. The Layers feature lets you place quilting designs on top of a quilt without disturbing the blocks underneath.

What is a Layer?

Layers function like quilts. You have the base layer (the pieced blocks), the applique layer (applique patches placed on top of the pieced blocks) and finally the stencil layer (the quilting design on top of everything.) When you use layers in Perfect Quilt, you can adjust the patches (or quilting designs ) on each layer without disturbing anything on the other layers.

Turn on Layers

1. To turn on layers, click the Layers tab. Next, click the Layers Enabled box. Next, click the layers that you want to work with. You can choose up to three layers, base, applique and stencil.

1. Click the Only Active Layers Visible Box if you only want to see the patches on the layer you are working on. For example, you only want to see the quilting stencils, not the pieced blocks underneath.

1. Click the Finish Button. You will now see three layer tabs next to the Ruler. Click on the layer tab that you want. You can now add blocks to the quilt by using the Browser. Remember, when layers are on, you will add blocks only to the current layer.

Layers Locked or Layers Independent

Choose Layers Locked to force the stencil layer to have the same layout as the rest of the quilt. Choose Layers Independent to create a different layout for quilting stencils and a different layout for the blocks.
