Make Custom Grid

With the custom grid, you can make a grid out of any block or set of lines. When you make a custom grid, your design is converted to grid lines. Custom grids are excellent for foundation blocks and complex pieced blocks.

To Create a Custom Grid

To create a custom grid, first draw the design that will become the grid. This design can use either patches or lines. For example, you can make a custom grid from a pieced block, or you can simply draw a series of lines.

1. Select Make Grid from the Options Menu.

1. Perfect Quilt will open a new drawing window with the custom grid made from your design.

1. When you close the window, Perfect Quilt will ask you if you want to save the grid.

Tips for Creating a Custom Grid

Use the Snap to Point or Snap to Line Tools to make odd-angled lines snap to each other. If you do not have Snap to Grid or the other snap Tools on, the custom grid lines may overlap each other.

Custom grids must have straight lines. Perfect Quilt cannot create custom grids from arcs, circles, freehand or bezier curves. If you use a curve in your design, Perfect Quilt will convert the curve into lines when it creates the grid.
