Tape Measure Tool

Use the Tape Measure Tool to measure the length of a patch or patches.

To Measure Patches

1. Click the mouse button on the Tape Measure Tool. The cursor becomes a small ruler with arrows.

1. The Tape Measure pop-up box will appear to tell you the distance between the two points. Start and End tells you the mouse positions. (see below) Angle tells you the angle of the measurement. Length measures the distance of the line you drew with the tape measure.

1. Place the cursor at the first point of the patch (or patches) you wish to measure.

1. Drag the cursor to the end point of the patch. The Tape Measure Pop-Up box will report the angle and distance of the tape measure line.

1. To turn off the Tape Measure Tool, click on any tool in the Toolbar.

TIP: The tape Measure Tool measures the real distance of the patch, not the apparent distance on the screen.

TIP: If you are using metric measurements, the distance will be in centimeters. If you are using English measurements, the distance will be in inches.

You can convert Perfect Quilt to display all measurements in metric. To convert Perfect Quilt to metric, select Preferences from the File Menu. In the General Preferences tab, select Metric Measurements as the Ruler Type.

What is the Mouse Position?

The mouse positions are coordinates that appear in the status bar at the top of the screen. They tell you exactly where your mouse is on the screen. You can use the mouse positions for precise drawing. You have the option to turn off mouse positions by clicking off "Show Mouse Position" in the Preferences box.
