Tips for working with Metafiles
• If the patches in the metafile are made of polygons, Perfect Quilt will convert the polygons into patches that you can paint, flip, rotate, etc. just like regular Perfect Quilt patches.
• If the metafile has only lines, you will need to create patches out of the lines. The easiest way to do this is to make a custom grid from the lines. To make a custom grid, right click on the metafile lines and select Make Grid from the Right Click Menu. The lines convert to a grid. You can now draw patches to fill in the grid and save the block.
• If the lines in the metafile are thicker than a hair-line, Perfect Quilt may not be able to make a custom grid. For example, you may encounter double lines. To fix this problem, go back to the program where the metafile was created and convert all line widths to hairline.
• Metafiles import best when they have solid color fills. You will not get good results if you export a metafile with fountain fills or fabrics. Other programs may convert the fabrics or fountains fills into many tiny polygons which will interfere with your design.
• You can export text in a metafile, but other programs may export text as curves or polygons. Perfect Quilt will not recognize these curves or polygons as text and you will not be able to edit the text, or change fonts, etc. You will need to experiment to see which programs may convert text into curves or polygons when it exports metafiles.
